Cavitation in spinal cord” is considered as syringomyelia. There are many theories for the formation of syringomyelia. The incidence of posttraumatic syringomyelia was 3% before using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in clinical practice and 12% after using MRI routinely. Traumatic syringomyelia is one of the most important causes of deterioration in spinal cord injuries. Surgical procedure should be chosen according to the type of spinal cord lesions. Preoperative MRI and clinic findings have significant role to select appropriate surgical procedure for deteriorated patients.
