Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), a common painful musculoskeletal condition, is characterized by the development of myofascial trigger points, taut bands and referred pain. It is also known as regional pain syndrome. Some difficulties are present in its diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment. Because the etiology of MPS is still unknown, most treatment protocols are symptomatic. The goal of the treatment is to relieve pain, restore muscle length, joint function and posture. In many studies, some techniques such as exercise, spray and stretch, and trigger point injections were found to be available in its treatment. In this review, we aimed to present the current knowledge of MPS, its clinical features, differential diagnosis and treatment.
