Pressure sores. This articles focused on the various factors that may contribute to pressure sores and its management. It also discusses how to develope a plan of approach to problem ulcers and how these sores should be approached clinically. Pressure sores of the skin may lead to increased morbidity and mortality in disabled and bedridden patients and are difficult to manage. They have a low frequency of spontaneous healing, and when spontaneous healing doses accur it often produces poor results. General management of patients that are a constant source of economic drain and a vexing problem to the treating physician, should include rigorous reydration treatment medical conditions and adequate pain relief. Local treatment may be aided by cleaning with saline and use of a moist wound dressing. Aggressive surgical debridment is essential. Surgical intervention which may allow the patient to mobilize more rapidly is required when a deep pressure sore fails to heal. Currently, fasciocutaneous flaps and myocutaneous flaps provide useful reconstructive techniques for plastic surgeon to institute.
