Communication Disorders and Their Rehabilitation in Stroke
Communication disorders are the most common problems arising after stroke with a reported prevalence ranging from 33% to 52%. “Aphasia” which is the prototype of the communication disorders, varies in terms of severity and predominant symptoms resulting in depression and social isolation that needs management. Several different therapeutic approaches; including behavior modification, cognitive therapy, combinations of behavioral and cognitive methods, and pragmatic approaches have been used to improve the language of aphasic patients. In this paper, the most common communication disorders associated with stroke are reviewed and comprehensive interventions in rehabilitation with new developments are discussed according to the results of recent studies.
