Ankilozan Spondilit Kifozunun Tedavisinde Vertebra Osteotomisi
Vertebral osteotomy in the treatment of ankylosing spondlylotic kyphosis- During the inflamatory phase of ankylosing spondilitis spine become progressively kyphotic. Following this phase, the patient is typically stiff and kyphotic but relatively pain free. The deformity may occur in cervicothoracic, thoracic or lumbar spine. A group of patients with severe deformity may be unable to stand uypight and cannot direct their eyes horizontally. Another problem is the development of the so called chin-on-chest deformity with possible dysfunction of breathing and swallowing. These severe deformities provide the most common indication for spine surgery in the patient with ankylosing spondylitis. In this study results of seven lumbar and one lumbar and cervical osteotomy were evaluated. It was observed that this surgical treatment resolves the postural disability of the patients with ankylosing spondylitis and it provides a good functional improvement.
