An Ankylosing Spondylitis Case with Atypical Peripheral Joint Involvement

Due to their different clinical characteristics ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis are not involved in the differential diagnosis of the same patient; they are rarely seen together. Ankylosing spondylitis can present with different clinical features and peripheral joint involvement in women. In this report we present a patient with sacroiliac and vertebral involvement with symmetric peripheral joint involvement. We want to emphasize that in some rare cases the differential diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis can be difficult or they can be seen together.
