Adult-onset Still's Disease in the Etiology of Fever of Unknown Origin and Review of the Literature

Adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) is a systemic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology and pathogenesis. Since a high fever is often the only manifestation, AOSD is regarded as an important cause of fever of unknown origin (FUO). The most important serological markers are hyperferritinemia, leukocytosis, negative antinuclear antibodies and rheumatoid factor. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids and immuno-modulating drugs are used for its treatment. In this study, we present an AOSD case, which was evaluated at the beginning as a FUO, and a review of the related data in the literature.
